Permanent Cosmetic Convention in Atlantic City Focuses on Technician Education and Safe Protocols
Permanent Cosmetics is a largely unregulated field, with little or no formal standards or licensing. Consumer questions abound on the safety and quality of treatments and how to gauge a technician's qualifications. As more and more woman discover permanent cosmetics, the most common question is, "Are You licensed?"
Often they are told, "Yes" or "I am certified." Truth be told, almost no one is, because few states offer or require
licensing or education before performing permanent cosmetic application.
Many individuals in the field are concerned about setting standards, such as Roxanne Zarafonetis, CNMT, PA who is a Johns Hopkins Hospital trained Nuclear Medicine Technologist who entered the field of permanent cosmetics 15 years ago before todays' unregulated
"certification" schools, and allergic pigments were on the scene. In an effort to help set allied health compatible standards, Ms. Zarafonetis has acted as an advisor to the Board of Cosmetology and The Higher Education Commission in her home state of Maryland on Permanent Cosmetic issues.
Over her
years in the field, she has found that most clients are very concerned about the lack of standards and credentials. This led Ms. Zarafonetis to open one of the first dedicated Permanent Cosmetic Schools in the USA to gain state approval by a Higher Education Board. The Lasting Effects TM Permanent Cosmetic Institute is founded on traditional tattoo manufacturer research and paramedical protocols for application. Because those working in the field have few opportunities for professional meetings on the East Coast, she is hosting Permatasia 2005- Permanent Cosmetic Convention in Atlantic City, May 25, 26, 2005.
Permatasia 2005 continues their tradition of offering education, workshops, lectures and demos for Permanent Cosmetic Technicians with the theme- "Explore the Possibilities." Subjects include scientific information on
equipment, topicals
and treatments, sterilization of equipment and safe application protocols with advanced workshops in basic scar coverup for vitiligo, surgery scars and breast cancer reconstruction.
The Permatasia Convention is dedicated to gathering and dispensing information on the art, science and allied health aspects of Permanent Cosmetics and Scar Restoration.
The convention theme of "Explore the Possibilities is aimed at expanding the vision of Permanent Cosmetic Technicians to consider offering the much needed skills of scar cover-up treatments in their own communities. PC-MEDS- the Permanent Cosmetic Medical, Educational & Development Society will offer a voluntary Board Exam at the convention and is dedicated to setting safe standards, ethical practice
and consumer protection.
Interested attendees may visit the website at www.permatasia.com .Permatasia 2005 Permanent Cosmetic Convention will be held in

SHEC Labs plans Renewable Solar Hydrogen Pilot Plant
(ContentDesk) June 1, 2005 -- SHEC-Lab's prototype solar hydrogen generator has now operated for approximately 1,200 hours with no noticeable coking or degradation of the catalysts. Hydrogen production is near the theoretical maximum at approximately 66% in the product gas stream with a 98.2% mol conversion of the feed methane. The estimated maximum hydrogen production with the unit is approximately 3,500 kg per year with minor modifications to the operating pressure and reactor configuration and an increase in the solar mirror area. The next stage of development is anticipated to be a commercial-scale demonstration at a landfill gas site using 40,000 kg per year hydrogen production modules. This one project (a small-to-medium sized landfill gas project) will prevent more than 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from entering the atmosphere over the next twenty years and will significantly improve local air quality and reduce smog.
This one plant would consist...

7 Tips About Laser Hair Removal
For many people having hair in places where it is not wanted can be an embarrassment. The hair can be on the body or on the face, wherever it happens to be growing, these people want it gone. Temporary hair removal solutions are not what they are looking for; they want something that is semi-permanent. A laser hair removal system would suit their needs nicely, but how does it work?
1- Laser hair removal provides effects that are similar to electrolysis, but are much more painless. There are several types of laser systems that have been approved for use in hair removal, while they all work a little differently; the premise is the same for all of them, by removing the hair at the follicle.
2- One of the reasons that lasers are becoming so popular is that this system is a relatively painless form of hair removal, especially when compared to the more traditional forms of body hair removal. The laser hair removal system also provides excellent outcomes...

Vision Instruments and University of Michigan propose innovative approach to facilitate introduction of "Hydrogen Economy". Approach to facilitate Hydrogen Economy would save billions in infrastructure, vehicle changeover costs. Proposal submitted to DO
"There is a great deal of interest in hydrogen as the new energy medium, because hydrogen can be extracted from many sources, using fossil fuels, nuclear power, and alternative energy sources such as wind, solar or biomass." said Jim Beyer, CEO of Vision Instruments.
"But the physical characteristics of hydrogen gas are not favorable for storage.
Hydrogen is very difficult to store even for stationary use, let alone for use in vehicles."
Much effort has been expended to find a storage medium for hydrogen.
These efforts have led to chemical hydrides, metallic hydrides, and even carbon nanotubes.
To date, none have achieved the DOE weight, density and cost requirements for a fuel medium of the future."Hydrogen, while it looks attractive, may not be the best medium for transporting energy," says Atreya.
"The most efficient and convenient medium depends on the renewable sources we can eventually congregate.
For example, it may...
